BROSETA strengthens its M&A practice with the addition of a partner in Portugal

BROSETA has recruited a new partner in its Portuguese office specialising in the area of mergers and acquisitions who, together with the professionals in the Spanish offices in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, will boost the firm’s M&A practice.

Thus, BROSETA has reinforced the M&A area with the addition of partner Gonçalo Castro Ribeiro, who joins the practice led by partner Joaquín Giráldez, thus contributing to the consolidation of a key area in the provision of legal services and which has a team of more than 60 professionals in the firm, including partners such as Alejandro Ríos, Carlos Salinas, Julio Veloso, Luis Sousa and Miguel Navarro.

Gonçalo Castro holds a law degree from the Catholic University of Lisbon, with a specialisation at the Hague Academy of International Law (The Hague, The Netherlands), and has extensive experience in complex cross-border M&A transactions, as well as in project finance and structured finance transactions, including regulatory matters in financial services and fintechs.

In the 20 years of his professional career, he has worked for Garrigues and DLA Piper, the international firm from which he comes and where he had been a partner since 2020. Gonçalo joins the team of 25 professionals in BROSETA’s Lisbon office, led by partner Álvaro Roquette, at a time of consolidation of its position in Portugal, following the integration of the Portuguese office into the firm’s corporate structure.

For Manuel Broseta, Chairman of BROSETA, “the appointment of the new partner is in line with the firm’s growth momentum in Portugal and its firm commitment to the Iberian market, and represents a further step in the strategic objectives of growth and strengthening our advisory capacity, offering a comprehensive Iberian M&A service”

According to Rosa Vidal, managing partner of BROSETA, “the practice of M&A and corporate transactions is one of the areas that we consider strategic, with a significant growth potential in which we have extensive expertise in the field, having participated in many investment and divestment transactions, with own or external financing, some of which are extremely complex”.

According to Álvaro Roquette, partner and head of BROSETA’s office in Portugal, “the entry of Gonçalo into our team will allow the development and reinforcement of operations as a joint practice at international level, and will open up a range of opportunities for Portuguese, Spanish and other clients looking for investment opportunities”.

Gonçalo Castro, for his part, considers it “a challenge that is faced with enthusiasm and an opportunity to be part of the Iberian firm project with an ambitious growth plan that will undoubtedly take advantage of the synergies derived from the establishment and consolidation of BROSETA in the Portuguese and Spanish markets”.

Boosting the Iberian integrated M&A service

BROSETA has extensive experience in the field of corporate transactions and operations and, in particular, in leveraged operations, mergers and acquisitions in general. The M&A team is made up of professionals highly specialised in the design, preparation, negotiation and execution of mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, transfer of assets or production units, joint ventures and structuring of commercial alliances.

Likewise, BROSETA has participated in the establishment of a large number of the most renowned Spanish and international funds, so its professionals are used to negotiating with sophisticated and specialised investors (mainly European and North American, institutional, funds of funds, pension funds and ERISA investors), and are familiar with their needs, characteristics and objectives.
