BROSETA participates in “Latin America Unites Us”

The Partner and Head of the Commercial Law Department of BROSETA, Julio Veloso, has participated in a conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and House of America, which was intended to highlight the prominent role of the Latin American community in Spanish foreign policy.

Along with Carlos Añaños, CEO of the AJE Group (one of the largest multinational drink companies); Josep Piqué, former Minister of Industry, Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology, and currently CEO of OHL, and Enrique Iglesias, President of the Latin American Council of Competitiveness, Julio Veloso participated in a panel discussion in which there was a debate on the inclusion of Latin American companies in the global economy. The resistance of the Ibero-American countries to the economic crisis, the attractiveness of the region for international investors, the ever greater influence of the Latin American economies in the global environment (in groups such as the G20 and OECD) and the role of Spanish companies in the region were just some of the issues that were addressed during the debate.

As a complement to the business participation, the meeting also featured another two roundtables aimed toward political and social issues. In the first, which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Garcia-Margallo; the Foreign Minister of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín, and Rebeca Grynspan, Ibero-American General Secretariat, discussed the changes experienced in Latin America in recent decades, and how the countries of the region currently claim much more attention and better knowledge than many other more developed economies in the world.

At the social round table were the Costa Rican cyclist Andrey Amador, the Argentine scientist Marcela del Río, the Peruvian writer Fernando Iwasaki and the Argentine journalist Martín Caparrós. The objective of this roundtable was to show to the audience, through established leaders of opinion, the dynamism, diversity and the important time the region is going through, from the point of view of youth, social change, the boom of culture, etc.
