BROSETA boosts its position in Portugal with the incorporation of two partners and a 91% increase in turnover
BROSETA has closed the 2020 financial year in its Portuguese division, BROSETA Portugal, with a 91% increase in turnover compared to the previous year, reaching a turnover of €2.03 million (compared to the €1.06 million recorded in 2019).
At the same time, the Firm has incorporated partners Luis Sousa de Macedo and Pedro Campos de Carvalho, from AMBA Advogados, who together with Álvaro Roquette (Managing Partner of the Lisbon office) and Pedro Guerra now make up the team of four local partners of the Firm in Portugal.
Two and a half years of trajectory of the Firm in Lisbon
2020 is BROSETA’s third closed financial year in Portugal, the second completed after the team was established in June 2018.
During this time, the Firm’s Lisbon office has experienced gradual growth, from €0.7 million turnover in the first six months of activity (financial year 2018), to €1 million in 2019 and the current turnover of just over €2 million.
The Firm has based this growth on multidisciplinary advice to large local accounts and BROSETA clients in Spain with interests in Portugal, in sectors such as Telecommunications and Media, Concessions, Financial Sector, Real Estate, Biotechnology and Pharma, among others.
Two new partners to strengthen strategic sectors
In line with the growth registered, the Firm has tripled its staff since 2018, going from the initial team of 7 people that formed the staff at the beginning, to the current number of twenty professionals, six of them partners (four local and Julio Veloso and Pablo Bieger, partners of the Firm in Spain).
Among the recent incorporations that have taken place are those of partners Luis Sousa de Macedo and Pedro Campos de Carvalho, professionals with a consolidated track record in the legal environment in Portugal, who strengthen the Firm in advising in strategic sectors such as energy and finance, among others.
Luis Sousa de Macedo holds a degree in Law from the Universidade Clássica de Lisboa. He has more than 30 years of experience in business law, specialising in corporate, commercial, civil, inheritance, telecommunications, energy and litigation, and has been a legal advisor in the office of the Portuguese Secretary of State for Energy (1992 to 1995), working directly in the process related to the introduction of natural gas in Portugal.
Pedro Campos de Carvalho holds a degree in Law from the University of Lisbon. He has extensive experience in legal advice on banking law and related matters, both in civil and criminal law, having worked as Coordinating Director of the Legal Services of Banco Santander Totta in Portugal.
Growing project
BROSETA reaches its fourth year with the aim of consolidating its position in the Portuguese legal services market, and continuing to generate synergies with the Firm’s clients in Spain.
For Álvaro Roquette, Managing Partner of BROSETA Portugal, “in a year as complicated in social and economic terms as 2020, the incorporation of Pedro and Luis as partners and the good performance of the team endorse the commitment made by BROSETA three years ago to this market and encourage us to continue growing and becoming a fully Iberian services firm”. “In 2021 – adds Roquette – we want to continue to grow thanks to the trust of our clients. Portugal is a market that is currently extremely attractive, both from a corporate and investor point of view, and our objective is to help companies in their establishment and growth in the Portuguese market”.
